The United Nations Environment Programme was founded in 1972 with the express purpose to monitor the environment and respond to environmental challenges. In 2026, UNEP will convene with delegates from around the world to confront both of these issues and work toward solutions that hold up under real world pressure. There are a number of nuances and specific questions that must be answered by this committee. How do we balance the urgency of decarbonization with the rights of communities bearing its costs? How do we prevent displacement before it happens, rather than only responding once it does? How do we protect both people and the planet, without treating one as expendable for the other?

Aishani is a sophomore studying Environmental Science and Moral & Political Economy. She is from Menlo Park, California and this year she is chairing UNEP for JayMUNC. She has been doing Model UN for six years now, starting out as Secretary-General of her high school's MUN conference and president of her high school team. On the Hopkins team, she currently serves as a Recruitment and Engagement Director. Aishani loves all things outdoors including hiking, taking pictures, and exploring new places with friends. When she's not outside, she's probably trying a new recipe or restaurant, or has Noah Kahan and Gracie Abrams playing in the background.
