In Seas and Trees: International Chamber of Commerce 2100, delegates must confront THE defining crisis of the century. Should cities and communities be abandoned, or is there a chance they can be saved? Will we surpass our Malthusian limit, or will resource depletion outpace energy innovation? Can nations balance climate justice with economic survival? As the greatest business magnates, policymakers, and scientific pioneers of this era, delegates must navigate an age of ecological collapse, technological ambition, and desperate survivalism. In a world where the old order has failed, only bold, market-driven solutions can prevent total catastrophe. The fate of the planet rests in the hands of those who can reshape economies, engineer new frontiers, and decide once and for all whether humanity will sink or survive.
Chair
Aritra is a sophomore majoring in History. While more political in its bent, Model UN has long been a passion of his since his first conference in high school, where the peculiar mix of oratory, roleplay, and actual policy made it quite irresistible as a hobby. From that initial interest, he eventually ended up on the other side of the podium as a chair, helping manage the chaos of a crisis. Beyond Model UN, Aritra’s interests include reading, playing the flute, and going on tangents about historical and linguistic trivia when prompted (note: please do not do this too much, we have a schedule to keep after all!). Recently he has been reading The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann and some poetry from the Bengali author and poet Sunil Gangopadhay.
Crisis Director
Aaradhya Diwan is currently a Post-Baccalaureate Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), having just graduated Johns Hopkins with majors in Molecular & Cellular Biology and International Studies, on the pre-med track. He originates from the same city as the waffle cone, Listerine™, and the Gateway Arch – Saint Louis, Missouri. Before joining the Hopkins Model UN Team, he dabbled in Congressional and Public Forum Debate in the National Speech and Debate Association. Outside of MUN, you might find him in the lab boiling worms (for research purposes), mindlessly scrolling Wikipedia for a random country’s politics to binge on, or speed running chess games. He is thrilled to serve you as the Seas & Trees Crisis Director, and looks forward to the creative and imaginative solutions you can bring to the table.
