To the Delegates and Delegations,
The Johns Hopkins Model United Nations team, aided by the unwavering support of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences International Studies department, is proud to welcome you all to the first edition of JayMUNC: our revived high school Model United Nations conference. We, the Executives, Secretary, chairs, and staffers are ecstatic to receive you all and thank you for making this conference a reality through your participation!
Hosted on the historic Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in North Baltimore, delegates can look forward to debating, writing, and collaborating at one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. We are excited to welcome you all as you engage in unique and creative solutions for a myriad of dilemmas, ranging from historic crises to the current state of the environment over three jam packed days. Outside of committees, we hope to offer a number of opportunities to help you on your college journey, including a major fair hosted by staff and campus tours and Q&A sessions led by current students.
For our inaugural year, we put forward six committees. For our General Assemblies, we have our double delegate United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), and our single delegate United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). For our crisis committees, we have our advanced double delegate United Nations Security Council (UNSC), our historical crisis, and our Ad-Hoc, whose topic will be announced the day of.
This is the first time in six years our team has been able to host a high school conference, and we have been dedicated to making this the best possible conference experience possible. A lot of us have been competing on the circuit since as early as middle school, and so being able to finally host our own high school conference is a very full circle moment. We’re excited to bring one of our conferences to Baltimore as well and integrate our school and team further.
We can’t wait to see you all at Homewood,
Yvette Shu and Sophia Baleeiro
Secretary General and Director General
